We at efko attach importance to responsible energy consumption and ecofriendly mobility to contribute actively to the energy transition. A powerful photovoltaic system, 100% green electricity and a modern vehicle fleet with electric and hybrid vehicles are just a few of the steps that we have taken in the interests of a more sustainable future. We invest in renewable energies and low-emissions mobility, in order to act in the interests of the future and the climate.
We don't just talk about sustainability... we put it into practice - and produce with renewable solar energy.
With a performance of a 1100 kilowatt peak, we cover around 25% of the annual electricity consumption of our Hinzenbach site. The remaining electricity is sourced 100% from renewable sources.
A well thought out energy management system helps us to optimise our energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions in the long term.
We have already been working for years on reducing energy consumption at efko and working efficiently. With the photovoltaic facility, we have realised the next big step in our sustainability strategy.

23 vehicles in the vehicle fleet, of which 12 hybrid or electric vehicles - that represents 52% of mobility with low or no emissions. This is accompanied by electric charging stations for a sustainable charging infrastructure.
50% of our raw goods originate from cooperative members, the rest mostly from Austria. We use certified raw goods that are ecologically cultivated, tested according to strict standards such as PrüfNach! for sauerkraut and sweetcorn.
Resource efficiency: We minimise food wastage through precise planning and donate excess vegetables to social markets and to the Altenfelden animal park.
The company waste water is pretreated at our own purification facilities with a capacity of 50,000 population equivalent (PE) - without introducing rain water.

Our packaging is continuously developed further and optimised in order to maximise recyclability and resource efficiency. The environmental impact and the recyclability of our packing are inspected regularly in cooperation with independent partners.
Partnership with ARA:
As a longstanding partner, ARA ensures that our packaging is collected and recycled in accordance with the environment, so that we are contributing actively to climate protection.

In 2023, the Upper Austrian social resources organisation provided the social markets of the federal state with goods worth 200,000 euros as part of an aid package, supplied in two instalments. efko therefore contributes to ensuring supplies to people with a low income.
Support for the local community:
efko supports the Hinzenbach fire department with an emergency generator and a high-performance fan to ensure their readiness in emergencies.
Promoting a healthy lifestyle:
efko supports social initiatives and educational programmes such as "Land schafft Leben" and "Sipcan" to promote a healthy lifestyle and long-term education.
Health coaching: efko offers employees support through coaches and psychotherapists in the event of professional and private challenges.
Health promotion: efko promotes the wellbeing of employees through ergonomics advice, sports event sponsoring and active mobility with running, walking and cycling events. A well thought out bicycle parking area with electricity connections rounds off the facilities for a healthy and active work environment.
Work culture: efko is committed to diversity and equal opportunities with regard to background, gender and age. We offer individually tailored further training, a free fruit basket and flexible working hours models, including working from home, to ensure a good work-life balance.
